ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
The workshop "Type & the City: Barcelona" with Francesco Canovaro and Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini, Type & Creative Directors, Zetafonts & TypeCampus. An in-person interactive laboratory lesson to investigate the power of storytelling of typefaces.
In writing a message, typography will communicate certain emotions and feelings to the audience. That’s because a typeface is never simply a mere drawing, but something that can tell through its shapes stories, activate memories and produce emotions. And just as in a conversation the verbal tone suggests the intentions, in visual communication it is the typographic choice that gives the message the right tone, expressing the identity of a brand, the quality of a product or the concept of an event.
The designers of Zetafonts are well aware of this, and for almost twenty years they have been telling stories in the forms of typographic characters, studying the ways in which the shape of a letter can communicate different emotions and messages.
In the workshop "Type & the City: Barcelona" Zetafonts opens the doors of its creative process, inviting participants to develop together a typeface dedicated to representing the city of Barcelona, collecting its many typographic souls and legacies.
Participants will be required to define the font identity and to develop signature glyphs inspired by the signs, monuments and urban signs that can best represent the city.
